Eating Beckenridge Part 1

20130329-223834.jpg
Last week was spring break. In honor of this wonderful escape from life, we made an escape to the lovely town of Breckenridge, Colorado. What could be better than a week of snowboarding?!

So we headed off at midnight on Saturday night and arrived in Breckenridge just after noon on Sunday! On the trip there we stopped and had a wonderful breakfast at… Wait for it… McDonalds. Hey sometimes a sausage, egg, and cheese McGriddle is the fuel you need to crank out the final hours on the road. So yeah, we get there at noon or a little after and we are ready to chow down.
We stop to eat at this joint called Empire Burger! Of course I forgot to take pictures. I know. Spank me. Well, this place was pretty tasty. Of course, we had to wait for our whole party to get there before we could be seated so we had to stand in a tiny entry way by the door until the last member of the party got there. They should have seated us. No doubt.
Still, the food was good. They had some absolutely incredible onion rings and some coma inducing fries! One of the best parts was the sauces you can get with the fries and onion rings!! They were great. Leave it to me to forget what sauces we tried, but I’m sure all of
them are fantastic. The burger was pretty good too. If you read my last post you know how much I love a good burger!
Then a little bit after eating I just so happened to fall asleep until 8 or so at night. By the time 10 rolled around, I was ready to eat again. So, off we went to find another place to stuff our face. We stopped at a little taco place called Lucha Cantina! Yeah, it was great! They only had their late night menu when we got there, but that was good enough for me! I got a chicken burrito and crammed it full of everything that I wanted!! They cook it up, roll it up, and then grill the burrito.

20130329-222809.jpg
So amazing!! Way better than places like Qdoba or Chipotle (which I love, don’t get me wrong)! The ingredients were just so fresh and delicious! No better way to end the night than eating so much burrito you start to speak Spanish!! Yeah, that was awesome!
After stuffing myself as always, it was time to return to the hotel and sleep away the night. The next day was the first day to hit the slopes!

Check back next week for part 2!!

Food. Drink. Whatever.

Love, Love, Love! The Day of Love That So Many Hate!… But I Love It!

Alas! Yesterday was the day of love!! Yes, I love valentines day! It’s such a fantastic day!! What better way to celebrate romance with a dump truck load of chocolate!! Yes, chocolate! It’s probably one of the greatest accomplishments of the human race!!

So, it came time to figure out what edible creation to present to my wonderful girlfriend!! Of course, she needed chocolate. What would a holiday be without chocolate!!!! Well, I decided to create some chocolate truffles!! I may be biased, but they are amazing!! How about a picture?

20130215-221644.jpg

Yup, they are covered in sprinkles. I wanted pink and red sprinkles but I couldn’t find any 😦 oh well! I think they look super happy!!

These puppies were a mess to make though. I’m not going to tell you what the mess made me think of… But it was gross! Oh well, the taste was with the clean up. Did I mention I hate cleaning up! Hate it. Probably one of my least favorite things to do. Ever. But these truffles were worth it. I only ate two of then though. I had to taste test them you know. They passed the test.

Oh yeah, I have to say something about the restaurant we enjoyed dinner at. Brooklyn’s in Stillwater. I would say, next to The Ranchers Club, that Brooklyn’s is the best restaurant in Stillwater. Considering the fact that it is significantly cheaper than The Ranchers Club (it is not a cheap restaurant though, I’d say it’s reasonable though) this place is a gem for Stillwater. I love it. I got the chicken and waffles. It was the first time I have ever had chicken waffles and it was soooo scrumptious. My girlfriend got the chicken fried steak and I do believe it is the best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten!! On top
of that, the garlic mashed potatoes and green beans were super duper as well!! Did I mention we got fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. Yeah, fried green tomatoes that were fried in a cornmeal batter. Yum. Then the wonderful people of Brooklyn’s gave us complementary chocolate dipped strawberries. LOVE chocolate dipped strawberries!! It made for a wonderful Valentines Day dinner!!! Absolutely wonderful!!

Oh yeah, not only was it Valentine’s Day, but it was mine and my wonderful girlfriend’s three year anniversary!! Happy three years G!

Oh Sweet Chariot!! It’s a Cannoli Tart!!

Looks like it’s that time of week again! foodtrash time!! So, last week I wrote about these delicious cookies from the blog How Sweet It Is. Yes those cookies were good. So good that they should probably have their own religion. Now, since that cookie recipe was such a success, I do believe that I am obsessed with How Sweet It Is. So much so that I am writing this week about another recipe I took from them, that they took from somebody else! Does that make sense?? Well what did I make you ask? Did you ask that? No. Well lets pretend you did. Ready to have your mind blown? Ok well here goes nothing!

BAM!! Cannoli Tart!!!

20130201-194921.jpg

Yeah, this was soo freaking good and easy to make!! Here is the recipe for those of you that want to give this beauty a try.

Don’t be scared, this is literally so easy to make that I couldn’t screw it up! Of course, leave it to me to totally forget to take pictures of the process until my girlfriend reminded me!! Luckily, I did get some pictures, so let your mind go on a journey to fantasy land via your eyes.

Mixing up the heart of the cannoli tart!!

20130201-195346.jpg

Oh yeah doesn’t that look aaaahhhhhmmmmmaaaaaazzzzziiinnngggg!! Chocolate chips!!!

20130201-195532.jpg

Yeah, so I suppose I’m not really the best at making pie crust…

20130201-195841.jpg

What you don’t see is how I forgot to put the nonstick spray on the pie plate… Basically I had to take the pie crust out, then spray the nonstick spray on the plate, then reform the crust and put it back in. Oh and did I mention that I kind of broke the crust and dropped some on the floor. No worries though, 2 minute rule! I’m kidding! I threw the part away that fell on the floor!! Want more pictures?? Ok!

20130201-201912.jpg

Yes, you should whip this up and shove it deep down that throat of yours! I loved it, but of course I love cannolis. Even if you hate cannolis you should eat it.

Oh and here is an awesome fire I made! Me man! Me make cannoli tart and FIRE!!!

OMG!! Cookie!!!!! (Brown Butter Oatmeal Chunk)

It’s foodtrash time!! For some reason I have been excited to write this post all week and now that it is time to actually write it I keep procrastinating. Oh well, I guess I will go ahead and plaster these words to this page. So what is tonight topic? Cookies!! I love cookies!! If you don’t like cookies well then you are the scum of the earth. Ok maybe that was an exaggeration. Maybe not. But it probably is. Not. Ok I will stop with that now. So yeah, I love almost every cookie alive, unless it has raisins in it. I hate raisins. Bleh.
So last weekend I decides to make some cookies. Let me tell you, they were AMAZING!!!! Not only that, but I came up with the recipe all by myself!!! Ok that was a lie. I found the recipe on what is probably my favorite blog “How Sweet It Is”. So if you didn’t click that link and are still reading this blog then I will tell you what kind of cookies these are: Brown Butter Oatmeal Chunk. Which is exactly what i felt like after chowing down on these puppies. But hey, oatmeal is good for the heart right? Yeah, so brown butter, if you don’t know what it is well you should. It’s pretty much incredible. Yeah. Incredible. Here’s some pictures of me whipping these puppies up:

Munch That Bagel

BAGELS!!!!!!

20130118-152857.jpg

Yeah I know that is a picture of a single bagel! Well technically it is a “breakfast bagel” from the Old School Bagel Cafe in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The breakfast bagel is exactly what it sounds like, it is a bagel with either sausage or bacon, eggs, and American cheese. This one was made using an everything bagel, but you can have it in any bagel you want. Today I got it with a jalapeño bagel and last Sunday I got it on a chili bagel. I love these things. Matter of fact, I devoured one this morning (the one in the photo was consumed about a month ago), and I mean it didn’t stand a chance.

So, bagels! What makes those little doughy masterpieces so amazing! It must be the hole in the middle (that’s what she…)! Now I know that there is a rumor going around that New York bagels are the best. Well, they are pretty dang good! When I was in New York City I made a stop at a little place called Ess-A-Bagel! Yes, that bagel was great! I can’t recall exactly what I got but it seems like it was simply a bagel with cream cheese. Yeah, it pretty much proved that the New York bagel is the best.

Yet, let us not get too far ahead of ourselves in drawing these conclusions! The Old School Bagel Cafe has bagels that are just as good or at least come pretty dang close. Yes, yes, the breakfast bagel is a favorite of mine, but the bagels with cream cheese are simply TO DIE FOR!! I got the blueberry bagel with honey almond cream cheese and I ate that thing as hard as I eat things. Yeah that made a lot of sense. I know I just ate a bagel this morning but I’m already craving another.

So grab a bagel and munch.

Food. Drink. Whatever.

Eats on the Streets

Oh no!!! It’s 9:03 p.m. and I haven’t written my blog yet!! Omg!! So many people probably checked in to read this wonderful blog and didn’t see a new post! Just kidding, just kidding. Nobody has looked at my blog today. Well, at least that’s what the stats say. So, what’s getting the foodtrash verbiage this lovely Friday??

Street vendors! Yeah, that’s right. The great ol’ American street vendor. They’re great! Who doesn’t love street vendors?? I for one do! Nothing better than getting a wet sloppy hot dog from a greasy fellow at a food cart (disclaimer: not all food cart vendors are greasy, and not all are men).

Now I’m sure all of my wonderful readers are thinking “why this topic”. Well, I will tell you why! Last night I made a stop at a hot dog cart and got me a wet, meaty, wiener! Yeah, this one was the bomb! It goes by the name “The Dirty Curty”! Let me tell you, it makes you feel dirty! Well only if you spill all of the chili and cheese on you, which I did not do for once! So I guess I didn’t feel too dirty. Now that I mentioned the Chili and cheese I should probably inform you of what this dog was topped with – cream cheese, chili cheese, and shredded cheddar! So freaking good! If your mind isn’t telling you that then you need to get a refund on that junk you’ve been using for a brain! Anyways, it’s good.

Yeah, I love food vendors. I’ve eaten at taco trucks on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Arkansas, and I’ve eaten an Italian sausage off the side of the street in New York. Both were amazing. No doubt about it. If you are thinking that food vendors serve trash for food, well you may be right. But this is foodtrash, so that works for me. Here is my weekly brain spill for you – if you see a food vendor and are feeling a little empty in the gut, then fill that gut with some street food goodness. No second thoughts. Eat up!

Food and Good Company

Food has long been a reason for fellowship. Throughout history people have gathered together in order to hunt, prepare food, or feast. I mean, think back in your own life. Most of the time when you get together with friends does it involve eating? Well, for me at least, the answer is yes. Whether it is having dinner together as a family, going to lunch with friends or colleagues, taking customers out to a business dinner, or going out to eat with a significant other. This is one of the things I love about food! I think I love the “getting together with good friends or family” part more than I like eating it. Well, don’t get me wrong, I do like eating it quite a bit.

I think this is quite odd though. Eating is something that we have to do! If we, as humans, go too long without eating food I’m pretty sure, from what I’ve read on Wikipedia, that we die. Well, I guess we die anyways whether we eat or not, sooo I guess that doesn’t matter too much! Anyways, I think that it is odd that we have taken this necessity to survival and made it something that brings people together. Even though I find it odd, I think that it is great! Many great memories, for me at least, have been made around the dinner table. As I was thinking about what to write for my blog this week, I began to think of all the fun times and great conversations that I have had with my mouth stuffed full of food (although it is rare to find me with my mouth not stuffed full of food). What makes this an even more incredible thought, is to think about all the great memories that have been made throughout history around the dinner table, or dinner rock, or dinner tree, or dinner dirt, or whatever people used to eat on.

So, I think that is why I decided to write a blog about food. I thought it was because I love food (which, of course, I very much do), but I believe it is much more than that. It is the people you are eating, I mean, with whom you are eating, that can make a meal fantastic. Well, that is until there is only one roll of sushi left and you have to stab someone’s eyes out with a chopstick so that you can get it!!

To food and good company!

Travel Eats – Branson

Traveling over the Holidays!! It’s great!! My family decided to take a short trip to Branson, Missouri. We left the day after Christmas, and we are on the way back as I type this. It has been a pretty good trip – good food, shows, lights, and family time. However, I am gonna be writing about the food. Because food is what this blog is all about!

So, it’s only fair to start with our first stop – Lambert’s Cafe!! It’s the home of the throwed rolls!! 20121228-132555.jpg20121228-132609.jpg20121228-132628.jpg
About 10 years ago I saw this place on the Travel Channel’s “Best Places to Pig Out”. It was number one and I can assure, it produced in me a desire to PIG OUT!! Probably a year or two later, we were on the road to Branson and I saw a sign for Lambert’s Cafe! It was not the original (there are three Lambert’s in the United States), but the food and experience was amazing!!

I had eaten at Lambert’s three times before we stopped there this trip – twice at the Ozark location and once in Foley, Alabama. Every time, it was delicious!! However be warned, the wait can get long! We had to wait probably between and one and two hours for a table those three times we went! This time, however, we were seated almost immediately!

So, Lambert’s Cafe, what is it like you ask? Well, it’s good, down home, country cooking! Plus, they throw rolls at you! The only other place you can find that many rolls flying through the air is on a trampoline at a fat camp! The only difference – these rolls are for eating, not from eating!! They are scrumptious rolls! Good sized and great with butter and honey!20121228-133856.jpg
That roll was probably being digested less than a second after that picture was taken!! Not only are the rolls great, but they have a lot of different sides that they call “pass arounds”. You can get as many of these as you want! For an appetizer, you can down some fried okra! Ain’t nothing quite like some fried okra! 20121228-134147.jpg
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I didn’t get that much. Trust me though, I’ve learned from experience – you don’t need that much! Why? Because check out this entree!!!20121228-134428.jpg
Chicken fried steak!! You know what it is!! So good!! I get it every time!! It’s so good and so much food!! I got the large size (16 oz)!! Why? I have no clue! I couldn’t finish it all!! Close, but no cigar!! I left that place on the verge of exploding!! Lambert’s Cafe, eat there!!

So, if that wasn’t enough food to kill me, then this next meal sure came close! Billy Gail’s Cafe!! This place was our breakfast on Thursday, the day after eating at Lambert’s. Once again, this place tries to murder you with their portion sizes!! Pancakes bigger than the plates!! I got the sloppy biscuit – it was sloppy!! Of course, I love it sloppy! The sloppy biscuit is a biscuit covered with egg, sausage, and gravy, with a little bit of hash browns on the side!

20121228-135508.jpg and of course I had to try the pancake, so I ate one of my brothers pancakes!

20121228-135607.jpg All of this was too much for my poor belly!! Do I regret eating it all? Noooo way!

Billy Gail’s was an awesome restaurant! If having great food in large portions isn’t enough, the staff is super friendly and Gail (the owner of the restaurant) runs the cash register!! This small little unassuming country cafe is a place you have to visit while you’re in Branson!!

After eating at Billy Gail’s we took a trip to Silver Dollar City!! So many lights!! It was awesome!! This amusement park is styled like an old mining town and during the Christmas season is COVERED in lights!!! It’s incredible!! Unfortunately, it was too cold so the rides were closed, but there was plenty of activity going on anyways!! So, what did we eat? How about this skillet cooked combo called the family feud! It was a collage of skillet cooked corn, okra, chicken, onions, and peppers!! It was scrumptious!! What was really cool about it was watching them cook it on the big skillets! Well, they the don’t do anything special while cooking it, but I still liked watching! And the smell!! Oh the smell!! Then, to end off the night we stopped by the candy shop in Silver Dollar City and picked up some homemade turtles and peanut butter cups. I also had to get a dark chocolate sea salt truffle!! I haven’t eaten that yet, but the turtles were sooooo good! Unfortunately, my phone died and I didn’t get any pictures 😦 oh well!!

So, last but not least, today, we decided to eat at a diner in a cute little shopping center. This diner goes by the name Mel’s Hard Luck Diner. At this old fashioned soda shop/ diner you will be waited on by entertainers!! Not only do the waiters/waitresses serve you food, but they sing too!! That’s right, singing waitresses!! It’s awesome!! We started off the meal with onion rings and jalapeño poppers! Both of these were pretty good! Then I decided to enjoy the singing of the wait staff while drinking a chocolate shake and eating a hard luck burger!

20121228-140458.jpg

20121228-140506.jpg The shake was great! I would recommend sharing it with somebody! They give you enough to fill about two and a half of those frosted glasses! If anybody really knows me, then they know I LOVE all things ice cream!! So of course, I was in heaven attempting to gulp that shake down (it was super thick though. Good thing I love it thick!)!! The shake was great, but the burger was just ehh. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but there are definitely places with better burgers for less money! Also, don’t expect it to be the cheapest! It’s not too ridiculously priced or anything, just not as cheap as normal diner food. But what can I say, normal diners don’t have singing staff!!!

Overall it was a great trip!! Great food and I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Branson and trying every single one of these places!! Stuff yourself! As the menu at Mel’s Hard Luck Diner says “calories don’t count on vacation. Order the big one”! Well, I couldn’t agree more! Unless you are always on vacation!! In that case control yourself!! Pshh, did I just say “control yourself”? What am I talking about?? PIG OUT!!

The Beginning

First post. I guess I should describe this blog a little bit. This is my first attempt at blogging, and of course, this blog about food and drink. Simple enough. I’m not sure everything that it will necessarily contain, but you can bet it will talk about the deliciousness of food or drink. You can expect a wide range of food topics, maybe a few recipes, and maybe some videos of me whipping up something very, very tasty. Well, no promises on how it will taste.

On that note I must warn you – I am the best chef to ever touch a hot skillet. False. I am not an expert when it comes to food. I just like putting it in my mouth. So, this may be the most unprofessional blog that you have ever laid eyes on, but don’t let that stop you. Lay eyes on it more.

Now that you know all of that, I hope that you decide to keep up with all of the trash that I have to say. How often will that trash be posted to this blog? I don’t know. It is verrryyyy possible that this is the only post that I will ever make. However, I hope that is not the case. I plan to plaster all of my food musings to this outlet as often as possible. That may be once a week, that may be every day. So, what will my first real post be about? It’s a mystery. Maybe I’ll cook something up and let you all read about it, or maybe I’ll write about the history of food. Unfortunately, all that I have eaten so far today is a protein bar and Cracker Barrel leftovers – country fried steak, fried okra, sweet carrots, and biscuits to be exact. If you are wondering, it tastes better when it has not been microwaved says captain obvious.

So, restaurant reviews, recipe reviews, random ramblings, and maybe my own attempts to whip up some food myself. Most of the restaurants being reviewed will likely be restaurants located right here in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, simply because that is where I live. However, it won’t only be limited to that.

Anyways, if you have any ideas, or simply want to tell me anything, you can do it in the comments, of you can shoot an email my way at foodtrashblog@gmail.com

Food. Drink. Whatever.

P.S. Since it is the Christmas season, and I LOVE CHRISTMAS, you can expect some holiday related posts soon. Enjoy.
