Nothing Like a Good Burger

There are many wonderful things in life, especially when it comes to food! Now, I like all sorts of food!! There are numerous meals that I have had that have almost put me in a coma because my mind can not comprehend so much deliciousness!! Also, there are so many foods that I want to try that cost three arms and a couple of legs. However, truth be told, there is nothing quite like a good burger!

I’m not going to say that a burger is the best thing on earth, no. What I am going to say is burgers are awesome! I love burgers, all kinds and all prices! The cheap burger from the diner down the road, amazing. The not so cheap burger from a fancy restaurant downtown, amazing. The truth is, give me a good burger and I will be happy!

There are a few restaurants in town that serve up some burgers that will seduce you into eating way more that your stomach actually desires. I will say that I have not eaten every burger in town so there may be some even better than the ones I have had, but alas I am unaware of them! Here is a short little list of a few good places to grab a burger in the Tulsa area. These are in no particular order.

1. Louie’s
– This place has some awesome, greasy burgers. I will say that they can be so greasy they will soak the bun, and I am not a fan of that happening. However, the burgers are still so good! They have a good amount of burger choices as well, but you can never go wrong getting the Big Lou.

Yeah that’s great burger. It’s very reasonably priced too at only $7.99. Plus, I like the fries. Here’s another shot of the burger I got from the Stillwater location. It’s called the Theta Burger.

It was awesome.

2. Fat Guy’s
– Now Fat Guy’s burgers may reward you with a heart attack, but you will die happy. In pain, but still happy! Add a side of fries and, well you will die happier. Not only does this place have some good burgers but they are also in a great location! Oh yeah, don’t forget to try the Fat Guy Challenge. Its like eating pounds of greasy food in less than an hour. No, I haven’t done it. Should I? Yeah I think so.

3. McNellie’s
– Not my favorite burger in town, but if you come on a Wednesday they are only $3 plus 50 cents if you want cheese. Oh yeah, that comes with a side of either pub fries or sweet potato fries.. The burgers are pretty good too, not the best, but pretty good. I do love mcNellie’s, it’s such a cool place. If I’m in tulsa on a Wednesday there is a good chance I will be at McNellie’s for dinner.

4. The Tavern on Brady
– Amazing burger. Absolutely incredible. Inexplicably scrumptious. This burger will set you back $13 but it is well worth it, maybe not economically, but you shouldn’t measure life economically! It is hard to beat this burger. Yes, it’s made with a homemade challah bun. Yes, that’s mushroom cognac cream on top. Wait, what kind of cheese is on it? Oh yeah, Stilton. Don’t forget that the patty is made with ground short rib, chuck, and brisket. Eat it. If you don’t eat it you will regret it for eternity. If you don’t wanna shell out $13 then come after nine in the evening and get the burger for $6. That’s a good deal. Actually, it’s a great deal!!

Now I really want a burger. Like bad. I just ate. Now I’m starving. Guess it’s time to eat again!

Food. Drink. Whatever.

Travel Eats – Branson

Traveling over the Holidays!! It’s great!! My family decided to take a short trip to Branson, Missouri. We left the day after Christmas, and we are on the way back as I type this. It has been a pretty good trip – good food, shows, lights, and family time. However, I am gonna be writing about the food. Because food is what this blog is all about!

So, it’s only fair to start with our first stop – Lambert’s Cafe!! It’s the home of the throwed rolls!! 20121228-132555.jpg20121228-132609.jpg20121228-132628.jpg
About 10 years ago I saw this place on the Travel Channel’s “Best Places to Pig Out”. It was number one and I can assure, it produced in me a desire to PIG OUT!! Probably a year or two later, we were on the road to Branson and I saw a sign for Lambert’s Cafe! It was not the original (there are three Lambert’s in the United States), but the food and experience was amazing!!

I had eaten at Lambert’s three times before we stopped there this trip – twice at the Ozark location and once in Foley, Alabama. Every time, it was delicious!! However be warned, the wait can get long! We had to wait probably between and one and two hours for a table those three times we went! This time, however, we were seated almost immediately!

So, Lambert’s Cafe, what is it like you ask? Well, it’s good, down home, country cooking! Plus, they throw rolls at you! The only other place you can find that many rolls flying through the air is on a trampoline at a fat camp! The only difference – these rolls are for eating, not from eating!! They are scrumptious rolls! Good sized and great with butter and honey!20121228-133856.jpg
That roll was probably being digested less than a second after that picture was taken!! Not only are the rolls great, but they have a lot of different sides that they call “pass arounds”. You can get as many of these as you want! For an appetizer, you can down some fried okra! Ain’t nothing quite like some fried okra! 20121228-134147.jpg
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I didn’t get that much. Trust me though, I’ve learned from experience – you don’t need that much! Why? Because check out this entree!!!20121228-134428.jpg
Chicken fried steak!! You know what it is!! So good!! I get it every time!! It’s so good and so much food!! I got the large size (16 oz)!! Why? I have no clue! I couldn’t finish it all!! Close, but no cigar!! I left that place on the verge of exploding!! Lambert’s Cafe, eat there!!

So, if that wasn’t enough food to kill me, then this next meal sure came close! Billy Gail’s Cafe!! This place was our breakfast on Thursday, the day after eating at Lambert’s. Once again, this place tries to murder you with their portion sizes!! Pancakes bigger than the plates!! I got the sloppy biscuit – it was sloppy!! Of course, I love it sloppy! The sloppy biscuit is a biscuit covered with egg, sausage, and gravy, with a little bit of hash browns on the side!

20121228-135508.jpg and of course I had to try the pancake, so I ate one of my brothers pancakes!

20121228-135607.jpg All of this was too much for my poor belly!! Do I regret eating it all? Noooo way!

Billy Gail’s was an awesome restaurant! If having great food in large portions isn’t enough, the staff is super friendly and Gail (the owner of the restaurant) runs the cash register!! This small little unassuming country cafe is a place you have to visit while you’re in Branson!!

After eating at Billy Gail’s we took a trip to Silver Dollar City!! So many lights!! It was awesome!! This amusement park is styled like an old mining town and during the Christmas season is COVERED in lights!!! It’s incredible!! Unfortunately, it was too cold so the rides were closed, but there was plenty of activity going on anyways!! So, what did we eat? How about this skillet cooked combo called the family feud! It was a collage of skillet cooked corn, okra, chicken, onions, and peppers!! It was scrumptious!! What was really cool about it was watching them cook it on the big skillets! Well, they the don’t do anything special while cooking it, but I still liked watching! And the smell!! Oh the smell!! Then, to end off the night we stopped by the candy shop in Silver Dollar City and picked up some homemade turtles and peanut butter cups. I also had to get a dark chocolate sea salt truffle!! I haven’t eaten that yet, but the turtles were sooooo good! Unfortunately, my phone died and I didn’t get any pictures 😦 oh well!!

So, last but not least, today, we decided to eat at a diner in a cute little shopping center. This diner goes by the name Mel’s Hard Luck Diner. At this old fashioned soda shop/ diner you will be waited on by entertainers!! Not only do the waiters/waitresses serve you food, but they sing too!! That’s right, singing waitresses!! It’s awesome!! We started off the meal with onion rings and jalapeño poppers! Both of these were pretty good! Then I decided to enjoy the singing of the wait staff while drinking a chocolate shake and eating a hard luck burger!

20121228-140458.jpg

20121228-140506.jpg The shake was great! I would recommend sharing it with somebody! They give you enough to fill about two and a half of those frosted glasses! If anybody really knows me, then they know I LOVE all things ice cream!! So of course, I was in heaven attempting to gulp that shake down (it was super thick though. Good thing I love it thick!)!! The shake was great, but the burger was just ehh. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but there are definitely places with better burgers for less money! Also, don’t expect it to be the cheapest! It’s not too ridiculously priced or anything, just not as cheap as normal diner food. But what can I say, normal diners don’t have singing staff!!!

Overall it was a great trip!! Great food and I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Branson and trying every single one of these places!! Stuff yourself! As the menu at Mel’s Hard Luck Diner says “calories don’t count on vacation. Order the big one”! Well, I couldn’t agree more! Unless you are always on vacation!! In that case control yourself!! Pshh, did I just say “control yourself”? What am I talking about?? PIG OUT!!

The Beginning

First post. I guess I should describe this blog a little bit. This is my first attempt at blogging, and of course, this blog about food and drink. Simple enough. I’m not sure everything that it will necessarily contain, but you can bet it will talk about the deliciousness of food or drink. You can expect a wide range of food topics, maybe a few recipes, and maybe some videos of me whipping up something very, very tasty. Well, no promises on how it will taste.

On that note I must warn you – I am the best chef to ever touch a hot skillet. False. I am not an expert when it comes to food. I just like putting it in my mouth. So, this may be the most unprofessional blog that you have ever laid eyes on, but don’t let that stop you. Lay eyes on it more.

Now that you know all of that, I hope that you decide to keep up with all of the trash that I have to say. How often will that trash be posted to this blog? I don’t know. It is verrryyyy possible that this is the only post that I will ever make. However, I hope that is not the case. I plan to plaster all of my food musings to this outlet as often as possible. That may be once a week, that may be every day. So, what will my first real post be about? It’s a mystery. Maybe I’ll cook something up and let you all read about it, or maybe I’ll write about the history of food. Unfortunately, all that I have eaten so far today is a protein bar and Cracker Barrel leftovers – country fried steak, fried okra, sweet carrots, and biscuits to be exact. If you are wondering, it tastes better when it has not been microwaved says captain obvious.

So, restaurant reviews, recipe reviews, random ramblings, and maybe my own attempts to whip up some food myself. Most of the restaurants being reviewed will likely be restaurants located right here in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, simply because that is where I live. However, it won’t only be limited to that.

Anyways, if you have any ideas, or simply want to tell me anything, you can do it in the comments, of you can shoot an email my way at foodtrashblog@gmail.com

Food. Drink. Whatever.

P.S. Since it is the Christmas season, and I LOVE CHRISTMAS, you can expect some holiday related posts soon. Enjoy.
