Eating Breckenridge Part 2

Heyyyy!! So I forgot to post last week. So I apologize to all my billions of fans. I know you were checking every 10 minutes all day. Well, I’m sorry. Now it’s time for Breckenridge part 2.

We hit the slopes bright and early, if getting out there at 10 in the morning is considered early. We decide to start off the day with a little bit of an extremely overpriced meal. So we grab a bite at a place called Ten Mile Station. It was so, so, not too bad but hey you pay to eat on the mountain. I think I got a vegetarian calzone. It he spinach on it. Yeah, nothing special.

Enough of that. During the evening we decided to grab a bite to eat at a place called South Ridge Seafood Grill. It was amazing!

When we arrived we did not have a reservation. Luckily there was room at the bar and we all ate there. I will begin by saying that the bartender that took care of us was amazing. Probably the best service ever. No doubt. The food was equally amazing.

For an appetizer we got some sort of tuna dip with pita bread. Bombin. Very fishy tasting… But it’s tuna dip it’a supposed to be fishy. We had another appetizer but… Yeah I don’t remember. It’s been a few weeks. I’m sure I will remember right after I finish this post.

Main course equals lamb meatballs! What? Yeah. You want them. I want them. Everybody wants them. They came with this stuff called polenta. I had never had it before but it was good. Supposedly it’s like grits. I know I probably sound like an idiot because I have a food blog and don’t even know what food I was eating. Lamb meatballs. That’s all you need to know.

If you want to know exactly what it is then check out the menu on the link above.

Dessert was some homemade espresso cake thing. I totally should have not procrastinated on this blog post. I would actually be able to remember what I ate. I do remember it was crazy good. It was pretty much like a mousse cake or flour less chocolate cake with an espresso anglaise. Yes if they have it I would recommend it. Just eat it like a cake cannibal. Make a mess. So what it’s a nice restaurant. Eat messy.

Eating Beckenridge Part 1

20130329-223834.jpg
Last week was spring break. In honor of this wonderful escape from life, we made an escape to the lovely town of Breckenridge, Colorado. What could be better than a week of snowboarding?!

So we headed off at midnight on Saturday night and arrived in Breckenridge just after noon on Sunday! On the trip there we stopped and had a wonderful breakfast at… Wait for it… McDonalds. Hey sometimes a sausage, egg, and cheese McGriddle is the fuel you need to crank out the final hours on the road. So yeah, we get there at noon or a little after and we are ready to chow down.
We stop to eat at this joint called Empire Burger! Of course I forgot to take pictures. I know. Spank me. Well, this place was pretty tasty. Of course, we had to wait for our whole party to get there before we could be seated so we had to stand in a tiny entry way by the door until the last member of the party got there. They should have seated us. No doubt.
Still, the food was good. They had some absolutely incredible onion rings and some coma inducing fries! One of the best parts was the sauces you can get with the fries and onion rings!! They were great. Leave it to me to forget what sauces we tried, but I’m sure all of
them are fantastic. The burger was pretty good too. If you read my last post you know how much I love a good burger!
Then a little bit after eating I just so happened to fall asleep until 8 or so at night. By the time 10 rolled around, I was ready to eat again. So, off we went to find another place to stuff our face. We stopped at a little taco place called Lucha Cantina! Yeah, it was great! They only had their late night menu when we got there, but that was good enough for me! I got a chicken burrito and crammed it full of everything that I wanted!! They cook it up, roll it up, and then grill the burrito.

20130329-222809.jpg
So amazing!! Way better than places like Qdoba or Chipotle (which I love, don’t get me wrong)! The ingredients were just so fresh and delicious! No better way to end the night than eating so much burrito you start to speak Spanish!! Yeah, that was awesome!
After stuffing myself as always, it was time to return to the hotel and sleep away the night. The next day was the first day to hit the slopes!

Check back next week for part 2!!

Munch That Bagel

BAGELS!!!!!!

20130118-152857.jpg

Yeah I know that is a picture of a single bagel! Well technically it is a “breakfast bagel” from the Old School Bagel Cafe in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The breakfast bagel is exactly what it sounds like, it is a bagel with either sausage or bacon, eggs, and American cheese. This one was made using an everything bagel, but you can have it in any bagel you want. Today I got it with a jalapeño bagel and last Sunday I got it on a chili bagel. I love these things. Matter of fact, I devoured one this morning (the one in the photo was consumed about a month ago), and I mean it didn’t stand a chance.

So, bagels! What makes those little doughy masterpieces so amazing! It must be the hole in the middle (that’s what she…)! Now I know that there is a rumor going around that New York bagels are the best. Well, they are pretty dang good! When I was in New York City I made a stop at a little place called Ess-A-Bagel! Yes, that bagel was great! I can’t recall exactly what I got but it seems like it was simply a bagel with cream cheese. Yeah, it pretty much proved that the New York bagel is the best.

Yet, let us not get too far ahead of ourselves in drawing these conclusions! The Old School Bagel Cafe has bagels that are just as good or at least come pretty dang close. Yes, yes, the breakfast bagel is a favorite of mine, but the bagels with cream cheese are simply TO DIE FOR!! I got the blueberry bagel with honey almond cream cheese and I ate that thing as hard as I eat things. Yeah that made a lot of sense. I know I just ate a bagel this morning but I’m already craving another.

So grab a bagel and munch.

Food and Good Company

Food has long been a reason for fellowship. Throughout history people have gathered together in order to hunt, prepare food, or feast. I mean, think back in your own life. Most of the time when you get together with friends does it involve eating? Well, for me at least, the answer is yes. Whether it is having dinner together as a family, going to lunch with friends or colleagues, taking customers out to a business dinner, or going out to eat with a significant other. This is one of the things I love about food! I think I love the “getting together with good friends or family” part more than I like eating it. Well, don’t get me wrong, I do like eating it quite a bit.

I think this is quite odd though. Eating is something that we have to do! If we, as humans, go too long without eating food I’m pretty sure, from what I’ve read on Wikipedia, that we die. Well, I guess we die anyways whether we eat or not, sooo I guess that doesn’t matter too much! Anyways, I think that it is odd that we have taken this necessity to survival and made it something that brings people together. Even though I find it odd, I think that it is great! Many great memories, for me at least, have been made around the dinner table. As I was thinking about what to write for my blog this week, I began to think of all the fun times and great conversations that I have had with my mouth stuffed full of food (although it is rare to find me with my mouth not stuffed full of food). What makes this an even more incredible thought, is to think about all the great memories that have been made throughout history around the dinner table, or dinner rock, or dinner tree, or dinner dirt, or whatever people used to eat on.

So, I think that is why I decided to write a blog about food. I thought it was because I love food (which, of course, I very much do), but I believe it is much more than that. It is the people you are eating, I mean, with whom you are eating, that can make a meal fantastic. Well, that is until there is only one roll of sushi left and you have to stab someone’s eyes out with a chopstick so that you can get it!!

To food and good company!

Travel Eats – Branson

Traveling over the Holidays!! It’s great!! My family decided to take a short trip to Branson, Missouri. We left the day after Christmas, and we are on the way back as I type this. It has been a pretty good trip – good food, shows, lights, and family time. However, I am gonna be writing about the food. Because food is what this blog is all about!

So, it’s only fair to start with our first stop – Lambert’s Cafe!! It’s the home of the throwed rolls!! 20121228-132555.jpg20121228-132609.jpg20121228-132628.jpg
About 10 years ago I saw this place on the Travel Channel’s “Best Places to Pig Out”. It was number one and I can assure, it produced in me a desire to PIG OUT!! Probably a year or two later, we were on the road to Branson and I saw a sign for Lambert’s Cafe! It was not the original (there are three Lambert’s in the United States), but the food and experience was amazing!!

I had eaten at Lambert’s three times before we stopped there this trip – twice at the Ozark location and once in Foley, Alabama. Every time, it was delicious!! However be warned, the wait can get long! We had to wait probably between and one and two hours for a table those three times we went! This time, however, we were seated almost immediately!

So, Lambert’s Cafe, what is it like you ask? Well, it’s good, down home, country cooking! Plus, they throw rolls at you! The only other place you can find that many rolls flying through the air is on a trampoline at a fat camp! The only difference – these rolls are for eating, not from eating!! They are scrumptious rolls! Good sized and great with butter and honey!20121228-133856.jpg
That roll was probably being digested less than a second after that picture was taken!! Not only are the rolls great, but they have a lot of different sides that they call “pass arounds”. You can get as many of these as you want! For an appetizer, you can down some fried okra! Ain’t nothing quite like some fried okra! 20121228-134147.jpg
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I didn’t get that much. Trust me though, I’ve learned from experience – you don’t need that much! Why? Because check out this entree!!!20121228-134428.jpg
Chicken fried steak!! You know what it is!! So good!! I get it every time!! It’s so good and so much food!! I got the large size (16 oz)!! Why? I have no clue! I couldn’t finish it all!! Close, but no cigar!! I left that place on the verge of exploding!! Lambert’s Cafe, eat there!!

So, if that wasn’t enough food to kill me, then this next meal sure came close! Billy Gail’s Cafe!! This place was our breakfast on Thursday, the day after eating at Lambert’s. Once again, this place tries to murder you with their portion sizes!! Pancakes bigger than the plates!! I got the sloppy biscuit – it was sloppy!! Of course, I love it sloppy! The sloppy biscuit is a biscuit covered with egg, sausage, and gravy, with a little bit of hash browns on the side!

20121228-135508.jpg and of course I had to try the pancake, so I ate one of my brothers pancakes!

20121228-135607.jpg All of this was too much for my poor belly!! Do I regret eating it all? Noooo way!

Billy Gail’s was an awesome restaurant! If having great food in large portions isn’t enough, the staff is super friendly and Gail (the owner of the restaurant) runs the cash register!! This small little unassuming country cafe is a place you have to visit while you’re in Branson!!

After eating at Billy Gail’s we took a trip to Silver Dollar City!! So many lights!! It was awesome!! This amusement park is styled like an old mining town and during the Christmas season is COVERED in lights!!! It’s incredible!! Unfortunately, it was too cold so the rides were closed, but there was plenty of activity going on anyways!! So, what did we eat? How about this skillet cooked combo called the family feud! It was a collage of skillet cooked corn, okra, chicken, onions, and peppers!! It was scrumptious!! What was really cool about it was watching them cook it on the big skillets! Well, they the don’t do anything special while cooking it, but I still liked watching! And the smell!! Oh the smell!! Then, to end off the night we stopped by the candy shop in Silver Dollar City and picked up some homemade turtles and peanut butter cups. I also had to get a dark chocolate sea salt truffle!! I haven’t eaten that yet, but the turtles were sooooo good! Unfortunately, my phone died and I didn’t get any pictures 😦 oh well!!

So, last but not least, today, we decided to eat at a diner in a cute little shopping center. This diner goes by the name Mel’s Hard Luck Diner. At this old fashioned soda shop/ diner you will be waited on by entertainers!! Not only do the waiters/waitresses serve you food, but they sing too!! That’s right, singing waitresses!! It’s awesome!! We started off the meal with onion rings and jalapeño poppers! Both of these were pretty good! Then I decided to enjoy the singing of the wait staff while drinking a chocolate shake and eating a hard luck burger!

20121228-140458.jpg

20121228-140506.jpg The shake was great! I would recommend sharing it with somebody! They give you enough to fill about two and a half of those frosted glasses! If anybody really knows me, then they know I LOVE all things ice cream!! So of course, I was in heaven attempting to gulp that shake down (it was super thick though. Good thing I love it thick!)!! The shake was great, but the burger was just ehh. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but there are definitely places with better burgers for less money! Also, don’t expect it to be the cheapest! It’s not too ridiculously priced or anything, just not as cheap as normal diner food. But what can I say, normal diners don’t have singing staff!!!

Overall it was a great trip!! Great food and I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Branson and trying every single one of these places!! Stuff yourself! As the menu at Mel’s Hard Luck Diner says “calories don’t count on vacation. Order the big one”! Well, I couldn’t agree more! Unless you are always on vacation!! In that case control yourself!! Pshh, did I just say “control yourself”? What am I talking about?? PIG OUT!!
