Food and Good Company

Food has long been a reason for fellowship. Throughout history people have gathered together in order to hunt, prepare food, or feast. I mean, think back in your own life. Most of the time when you get together with friends does it involve eating? Well, for me at least, the answer is yes. Whether it is having dinner together as a family, going to lunch with friends or colleagues, taking customers out to a business dinner, or going out to eat with a significant other. This is one of the things I love about food! I think I love the “getting together with good friends or family” part more than I like eating it. Well, don’t get me wrong, I do like eating it quite a bit.

I think this is quite odd though. Eating is something that we have to do! If we, as humans, go too long without eating food I’m pretty sure, from what I’ve read on Wikipedia, that we die. Well, I guess we die anyways whether we eat or not, sooo I guess that doesn’t matter too much! Anyways, I think that it is odd that we have taken this necessity to survival and made it something that brings people together. Even though I find it odd, I think that it is great! Many great memories, for me at least, have been made around the dinner table. As I was thinking about what to write for my blog this week, I began to think of all the fun times and great conversations that I have had with my mouth stuffed full of food (although it is rare to find me with my mouth not stuffed full of food). What makes this an even more incredible thought, is to think about all the great memories that have been made throughout history around the dinner table, or dinner rock, or dinner tree, or dinner dirt, or whatever people used to eat on.

So, I think that is why I decided to write a blog about food. I thought it was because I love food (which, of course, I very much do), but I believe it is much more than that. It is the people you are eating, I mean, with whom you are eating, that can make a meal fantastic. Well, that is until there is only one roll of sushi left and you have to stab someone’s eyes out with a chopstick so that you can get it!!

To food and good company!
